Here you can see 3 fine examples of the tree of life paintings on silk, 2 framed palm leaf etchings , a fan also etched on palm leaf and an embossed metallic wall panel .
The more detailed silk paintings can take weeks, or even months in the case of large pieces to produce. These examples are the work of Kailash Meher an award winning artist from East India. Such was the success of his work that he employed destitute and impoverished young women and taught them how to paint more straight forward pieces until their level of skill improved. He saved many lives in doing so. These examples are a collaboration between Kailash and The Elliot collection.
The palm leaf etchings are from the same region in India and employ a technique used for thousands of years, before the Chinese invented paper. This technique was often used to record religious text . The Metallic wall Panels are from Rajasthan .
The final 3 images are of Tibetan Thokchas , forged from meteorites , high in metallic content and were used by the monks in particular as amulets for healing, magic and spiritual protection. They regarded them as literally as fallen from the heavens. The Elliot Collection is happy to consult on antique pieces , be it Eastern or Western and we were involved with the sale of this private collection of Thokchas at Sotheby’s New York, where a collection reached 500,000 USD . Similarly we recently completed the sale of antique clocks to a private collector for 15M USD.
